Setting Folder Permissions If the program will be running under an account with administrative privileges in Windows XP, which is normally the default status for single user machines, it is not necessary to set folder permissions. The information below pertains primarily to machines with multiple users with only one individual having administrative privileges such as in a university computer network setting. It also applies to installations of Formulate2 running on Windows Vista. Depending upon how current you installation of Vista is the appropriate permissions on these folders MAY or MAY NOT be set. All of the checked privileges shown in the Windows Vista folder properites image below should be checked on each folder. If they are not you should follow the instructions below and select them. To run Formulate2 under a user account without administrator privileges, it is necessary to manually set permissions for the user group on the two folders in which Formulate2 stores working data and back up data. These two folders are found in the root directory of the drive on which Formulate2 is installed. In the example below, drive C is used to illusrate the paths to the folders.
To set the appropriate permissions on these folders, log on to Windows under an account with Administrative privileges and use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folders as shown below.
Right click on the folder and select the Properties menu option.
On the Security tab of the Properties form, click on the User group to select it. Then click on each permission option shown in the images below. Windows XP
Windows Vista To set permissions in Windows Vista, click on the Edit shown below in the red rectangle then click on each permission as shown below.
After the folder permissions have been set, click on the Apply button and then click on the OK button. Now repeat the process and set the same permissions on the Formulate2 Back Up Folder. Displaying the Security Tab If the Security tab is not displayed on the Properties form, close the form and click on the Tools menu. Then click on Folder Options as shown below.
When the Folder Options form is displayed, click on the View tab and scroll down to "Use Simple File Sharing [Recommended]" option as shown below.
Click on this option to de-select it as shown above, then click on the Apply button. Next, click on the OK button to complete the process. With this option de-selected, the Security tab will be displayed on the folder Properties form. |
