The highlight bar is another one of those things that don't really seem all that significant - sort of like sunglasses on a cloudy day. However, when there's a break in the cloud cover they sure are nice.

The highlight bar is a place keeper - its function is to let you know where you are, where you've been, what you were doing or what you were about to do.

Any time you see data arranged in a grid format as shown in the image below, clicking on an item in the grid will highlight the entire row.
