"I found Formulate2 to be an extremely powerful, adaptable, and well-designed tool...with the 2001 NRC and the help (system)included... this may be the best-supported program available... I highly recommend Formulate2 for use in the classroom, and with the tools included for managing multiple herds, I suspect that it would be even more valuable for consultants in the field."   Barry Bradford, PhD Kansas State University

"Congratulations on an excellent professional program... it's fast, quick, efficient, dynamic - I love it!" Gary Boyett PAS, Kenton, TN

"...it may be interesting to note that we actually do feed the ration with the metabolizable lysine set at 6.3% (of MP) to a herd of real live cows. And, we do get close to 100 lbs of milk with a 3.75% milk fat and 3.05% milk protein." Roger Epley Ph. D., Neenah Wisconsin

"... Formulate2 and I are getting along pretty well. I'm playing with the customized reports to consolidate the information I want to use when doing a diet. I really appreciate its flexibility! Charlie Elrod Ph.D., Newfield, NY

"In an industry that is constantly changing, Formulate2 has saved me time and made managing multiple dairies with varying concerns much easier...This is any busy nutritionist's dream!" Richard Ware, Ph.D., Visalia, CA

"We've used Formulate2 for several years and haved enjoyed great success with the program. Currently our herd of Jersey cows is milking at 17,676 actual pounds of milk with 4.5% fat and 3.4% protein on 2 times a day milking" Roy and Lorraine Andreasen, Corrine Utah

Central Valley Nutritional Associates (CVNA) is located in Tulare County a southern region of California's agricultural Heartland: the San Joaquin Valley. As the heart of California's dairy industry and home to well over a quarter of a million dairy cows, Tulare County has been a seminal force in California's ascension as the nation's top dairy state.

Feeding In this setting, we began providing nutritional services for local dairy producers.

It soon became apparent that the dairy ration software available left a great deal to be desired.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Thus began the evolution of Formulate2 dairy ration software. The first version was completed in 1986, as an in-house ration formulation program, and has undergone continuing development since that time. Its features have evolved based on the needs we've experienced working in the dairy nutrition field since 1983. Those needs have ranged from simple ration nutrient analysis to comprehensive financial analysis and planning of feeding programs including inventory requirements, feed dollar distribution, and return over feed cost summaries.

From the beginning we've also looked to the future of dairy nutrition as a guide to present development of our dairy ration software. The original 1986 version of Formulate2 included amino acids as nutrient fields in its feed records. The current Windows version is fully compliant with the NRC 2001requirement prediction model while allowing you to simultaneously work side-by-side with NRC 1989 values for NE(l), UIP, DIP and minerals providing a much needed bridge between the two dairy models.

With an eye towared future development, the statistical constants developed by the NRC committee for use in modeling duodenal protein flow and composition have been implemented in Formulate2 as a user editable file easily facilitating implementation of any subsequent updated values.

The goal of this present generation of dairy ration software is to provide you with a practical, usable formulation suite that implements current developments in ruminant protein nutrition while providing a workable bridge from the past to the present and beyond. In addition to nutritional relevance, Formulate2 provides you with capabilities to assist in managing cash flow by allowing you to minimize concentrate costs, maximize forage usage, develop real-time estimates of feed inventory costs and usage and the ability to project return over feed cost based on observed dry matter intake.

Formulate2 was born and raised in-the-field. It is software we use, not just a program we sell. It is continually being developed both in terms of adding new features as well as refining existing ones. We are constantly striving to improve its level of productivity.
